❋ BROTH SEASON IS UPON US + A RECIPE

Happy fall everyone,
While it always takes me a few weeks to acclimatise to the new season, once I do, I’m all in, baby. The cauldron's out, and we’re serving up bone broths, slow-cooked stews, and herbal concoctions.
This is the first of many monthly newsletters where I’ll be sharing my personal recommendations for nourishing your skin, body, and mind. Topically, there are limitations to what we can offer our skin. Skincare requires an inside-out approach first, and that’s the hill I’m willing to die on.
I’m wildly optimistic for the start of each new quarter. There’s so much richness in each season if we let go of the idea that one is better than the others. This quarter, we’re diving into more R&D for our formulations, branding, and packaging. I’m excited to be creatively incubating for the birth of FOTL 2.0 in 2025.
As we enter the final three months of the year, this can be an incredible time to do a little inventory, reflect, honour, take a new step, and go a little deeper.
There is nothing to lose. Have a beautiful October.
Lots of love,
Yuni
P.S. As the weather cools, you may notice that the whipped balms become firmer. Tallow, being a saturated fat, naturally hardens in cooler temperatures and softens in warmth. If your balm feels too firm, simply warm it up between your fingers before applying.
P.P.S. I am unfortunately expecting delays on the next inventory update, in case you’re in dire need of a restock, there are still a handful of tallow balms available on the website now.
BROTH SEASON IS UPON US, AND THIS IS MY RIDE-OR-DIE INGREDIENT FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS
There’s absolutely no question that homemade bone broths are superior—a true labor of love. But if you don’t always have the time or patience to cook up a big batch of broth, I’m about to rock your world (or so I like to think).
We’re all familiar with store-bought liquid bone broths, but is there something better out there? Drumroll—bone broth concentrate. One of my favourite brands is from Australia (shout out to Gevity Rx), and yes, I used to have it shipped all the way from across the world. Unfortunately, in the last two years, they stopped delivering outside of Australia and New Zealand. Luckily, I found a pretty solid replacement from another Aussie brand that ships to the Netherlands, and I couldn’t be happier. Get it here.
I add this to everything (use less salt when you do). Obviously, it's perfect as a base for any soup or stew, but I also add it into curries, pasta sauce, mashed potatoes, rice, miso soup (recipe below), and occasionally, in my hot chocolate.
Other bone broth options out there:
RECIPE: MISO BONE BROTH
A mineral-rich, hydrating recipe that replenishes the skin from the inside out with a combination of fermented miso, collagen-packed bone broth, and seaweed for trace minerals.
Ingredients:
- 400ml of boiling water (if not using concentrate, replace with 400ml of liquid bone broth)
- 1 heaped teaspoon of bone broth concentrate
- 1.5 teaspoons miso paste (eyeball to taste)
- ½ teaspoon dashi stock powder
- 1 tablespoon dried wakame (I like this brand)
- Optional: silken tofu
Directions:
Bring water or bone broth to a boil in a pot. Add the dried wakame and dashi stock powder, and let it simmer for a minute. Then, dissolve the miso paste and bone broth concentrate by pressing them through a sieve into the broth. If desired, add tofu or your choice of protein.
ON INDOOR HEATING AND BARRIER BLANKETS
As we transition from summer to fall, I’ve noticed how quickly winter jackets have reappeared, and I can only imagine heating systems are already working overtime in some homes. But fall is a season of transition, and for me, that means easing out of summer with supportive rituals that honour the shift. When it comes to skin, indoor heating can be especially harsh, leading to significant moisture loss overnight. We’re only in October, you might want to hold off on cranking up your heating systems for as long as you can.
Personally, I keep the radiators off in my bedroom all through fall and winter. While it does make the room significantly cooler at night, I sleep comfortably under a thick duvet. On top of that, I make sure to create a “barrier blanket” for my skin before bed. I take a generous scoop of Holy Grail (formulated with beeswax) and lay it onto my skin (and lips) until I resemble a glazed doughnut. It might sound excessive, but this creates the perfect moisture barrier, and I wake up with soft, supple skin every time.
P.S. I have 5 XL jars of Holy Grail available for sale—180ml for €70 (with free shipping for NL orders). These jars are 3x the size of our regular 60ml jars. They are not listed on the website, so if you’d like to get one, reply to this email or send me a DM on Instagram.

I can’t fully explain how this audio completely transported me, but I hope it resonates with some of you. Listen here. Dim the lights, airpods in, lie down, eyes closed, get comfy, breathe deeply and enjoy the ride. If you liked it, the whole album can be found here.
